5 SELF-CARE TIPS DURING QUARANTINE

The coronavirus pandemic has affected the world in a way that has never been seen before. Shops and businesses have closed, church doors have shut and people across the world have been told to stay indoors. Consequently, this has resulted in thousands of people losing their jobs overnight, therefore leaving many families struggling. The uncertainty of this crisis has also exacerbated for many people, existing mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. I must admit I have found quarantine life challenging at times. But rather than let this crisis overwhelm me I have found enjoyable things to do to help me through it. So on that note, I want to share with you 5 self-care tips to help you during quarantine.

EXERCISE

I have personally experienced many great benefits of doing exercise. Exercise is a fantastic way to deal with stress, anxiety and depression. I know government guidelines have stated that outdoor exercise is limited to one hour a day, but you can exercise indoors. One of my favourite parts of ‘quarantine life’ is when my daughter and I do Billy Blanks Tae bo workout in the afternoon. Whilst Tae bo may not be your thing video platforms such as YouTube have exercise videos to suit anyone. So give it a try!

BOOKS

Some people are not into sitting down to read a paperback book but there are other ways to take a book in. Audiobooks are great and you can found them free to listen to on YouTube, depending on what you like. Amazon has audiobooks and ebooks that you can download if you have a Kindle device. Books are great for taking your mind off the cares of the world. Free Audiobooks is a platform you can join for free. https://freeaudiobooks.co.uk/

FIND A HOBBY

In a recent blog post, I wrote called ‘healing in what you love’ I shared how engaging in things you find enjoyable is good for your wellbeing. What is it you like to do? Being in quarantine provides the perfect opportunity for you to explore something new.

PAMPER YOURSELF

If you are someone that is used to always being on the go maybe pampering yourself seemed like wishful thinking. As the world takes a pause give yourself permission to pause as well. You don’t have to spend money to treat yourself. You could have a nice bath surrounded with candles, try a new hairstyle (via YouTube tutorial), watch your favourite film, or buy a bar of your favourite chocolate if you want. In whatever you choose to do enjoy it.

SEEK SUPPORT

During this time you may find you need extra support. Therefore I would encourage you to make use of the support systems you have in place. If you do not have support there are helplines that are open during these difficult times. I have provided a list below for you to check out.

Please remember to be safe during this time.
