FLOURISH

Daughter Arise is eight years old! It is an amazing achievement to have reached our eighth year and I am proud. It has been challenging at times, especially in the early years, as this organisation was birthed from the pain of my past trauma, but to see how it has flourished has been amazing. All that I have achieved has come at a great personal cost but it has been worth it to see all the lives that Daughter Arise has touched.

As Founder and Leader of this organisation, I understand the work that I do in supporting survivors to navigate through a challenging time in their life is important. As a survivor, I know how extremely difficult it can be to navigate through the journey to healing from childhood sexual abuse. The process is especially hard when you have to face it alone. Rejection is a bitter pill to swallow when you have done nothing wrong. I remember the feeling all to well when I was ostracised from my family for speaking out against my Dad. I found the experience devastating and humiliating. But what was meant for bad has been turned to good, as with so many other adversities that I have faced in my life. My experience has helped me to be in a position to help others. This is why Daughter Arise exists.

When I think back to 15 years ago I never imagined the life I am living now would be possible. I never believed my life would take a turn for the better. But I give all glory to God that I have arisen out of the ashes of my past to embrace a new future, to be able to pour hope into others and be an encouragement. Because of Jesus, I have flourished. The outcome in my life could have been so different because of the devastating effects of childhood sexual abuse. I am thankful every day for what God has done in my life.

As I continue to learn and grow, Daughter Arise will continue to flourish and grow. It is exciting to see how some of the women that regularly attend support group have flourished, in part from the support Daughter Arise has given them. What is even more amazing is that some of those women are now preparing to come on board and support Daughter Arise in different roles. Pay it forward as the saying goes; is that not what peer empowerment is all about.
